Extreme Heat Wave Hits Buenos Aires, Authorities Issue Advisory

Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires metropolitan area are experiencing one of the hottest weeks of the year. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has confirmed the extreme heat alert is in effect, warning that the mass of hot air will remain over the country's central region at least until New Year's celebrations. For this Sunday, the thermometer promises no respite, with a heat index that could exceed 40 degrees in densely populated urban areas, reported the Argentine News Agency.

Extended forecast for the AMBA (Greater Buenos Aires Area): Sunday, Dec 28: An oppressive day is expected, with a low of 25°C and a high climbing to 38°C. This could trigger isolated thunderstorms and a marked drop in temperature, leading to a more pleasant New Year's Eve night, with a high of 28°C forecast.

In light of this scenario, health authorities recommend increasing water intake, avoiding sun exposure between 10 AM and 4 PM, and paying special attention to babies and the elderly. They also request responsible electricity use to avoid cuts in the medium-voltage grid.

With the start of the work week, temperatures will range between 26°C and 37°C. Weather models indicate that a cold front from the south will not arrive until the night of Tuesday, Dec 30, or the early morning of Wednesday, Dec 31. The sky will be clear, and a north wind will bring more humidity to the environment.

Monday, Dec 29: The trend continues. The pressure on the electrical system will be at its maximum due to intensive cooling use. When will relief arrive?
